Greek fiscalization has been quite dynamic in the last couple of years. This dynamic is achieved through introduction of new technical rules imposed on fiscal devices, new requirements regarding communication of transaction data from cash registers to the authorities, QR code on fiscal receipts, myDATA reporting obligation and finally the most recent novelty – mandatory interconnection between the fiscal device and the EFT payment terminal.
The reason behind this is the fact that practice showed a high volume of avoidance of proper processing of card payments.
Now the legislation forbids manual usage of the payment terminal, meaning that the card payment transaction must obligatorily be initiated by the fiscal device.
This change imposed an obligation of updating fiscal devices in a way for them to be able to support communication with the payment terminal, which was previously often handled directly by the POS application. The new fiscal receipts produced by the fiscal device shall include the prescribed card payment details automatically.
Fiscal device manufacturers are working intensively on implementation of these changes.
The law was published in the summer of 2022 with the initial intention to be implemented from January 2023. Since practice showed that this deadline was hardly achievable, start of implementation is now expected in the summer of 2023.
