Sweden, formally the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Nordic country located in the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. It borders Norway to the west and north, Finland to the east, and is connected to Denmark in the southwest by a bridge–tunnel across the Öresund.

Fiscalization requirements have been present in Sweden since 2010 and while the main principles stayed the same, throughout the years, there were several changes and amendments to these rules shaping the system applied today.

It is mandatory to use a certified cash register and a connected special control unit.

Besides certain subjects and businesses being exempted from fiscalization obligation, which is also usual in many other countries with fiscalization requirements, the Swedish Tax Agency provides for the possibility to be specially excluded from the group of fiscalization subjects, based on an individual request, followed by appropriate documentation.

POS application itself does not have to be certified, so retailers can opt for a solution suitable to their business without specific approval from the authorities.
